It honestly never occurred to me that establishment Democrats would not be on board with overturning Citizens United, but I'm sure you're correct. But they shouldn't be able to have it both ways. You can't be the party of the people when you are actually getting paid by a foreign country and the opposition party. Everything has gotten exponentially worse since Citizen's United. It's really one of the only times that I don't think any of the predictions were hyperbolic at all. So much of the unspooling of protective regulatory oversight began with the influx of dark money. Do you think without Citizen's, Dobbs would have happened? Or Chevron be overturned?
I remember when Obama said it would let "foreign money into our elections." People got mad at him, but he was 100% correct. All the predictions were spot-on.
As per the Democrats, I included the line about how more national Dems are rejecting PAC money because I think it shows they see the reputational damage. Now, we just need to extend that to primary system.
This is so gross. And the cognitive dissonance from the rank and file Democrats about these issues pisses me off so much. People who don't pay attention until presidential primaries and have no idea where the party chooses to support this Republican and foreign money having the audacity to tell me I'm not understanding how important this election is... it's cute. And not at all frustrating.
I hear that! Blue MAGA on Twitter were ripping on Trump for his tariffs on China so I shared this article with them. They tried to make excuses🤣 Biden's policies have all tracked Trump's. The illegal closing of the border, is called racist under Trump, but it's magically not racist under Biden. I asked someone why weren't they ridiculing Biden over the same stupid wall they ridiculed Trump for. They blocked me🤣
Sen. Sanders is right, of course; and what he inveighs against is well-known.
The two major parties, and the media outlets they buy ad-time from, however, have less than no interest in changing CU; so there's almost 0 chance for changing it from the "supply side".
What we *can* change, tho', is the "demand side"; i.e. finding the link where the super-PAC money and ads turn into votes, and breaking it.
That, however, will require nothing less than a new left party to do; bc any internal motion that way through the major parties will be blocked, attacked, and sabotaged by the elements within that benefit from status quo, and control all the power therein.
Forget any promises or hopes dangled before you otherwise; the only tangible and durable tool for this crucial job for our democracy is a party of our own. By 2026 midterms, we must have one; or it's we who are failing this moment.
Framing it as "the demand side" is well said. And I think there's potential there. After all, even a few centrist Democrats refused PAC money in 2020 because they knew it was "out of demand" with the base. That can be leveraged.
The "demand side" is the most important thing that needs to be addressed. Where does the money go? To buy ads. Who buys the ads? Shady-ass "committees" with no mailing address other than a P.O. Box, who hide their donors' identities, and make commercials that look like they cost $50 + a half-hour to make.
Why would anyone with 2 brain cells who are acquainted let these sketchy operations advise them how to vote?
They're defrauding literally everybody, donors included, and the Democrats just play along, as the Republicans do.
Thank you, thank you, thank you Joe. I would be up for living in a parallel universe of sorts where Bernie Sanders is President Sanders.
I'd happily join you in that alternative timeline
This is something that just came to my inbox. https://www.milwaukeeindependent.com/heather-richardson/brute-force-behavior-greed-corruption-heart-republican-grift-save-america/
Well written. HCR is great!
Hey Joe, just want to share this with you also. https://ndncollective.org/dnc-ndn-collective-calls-for-democrats-to-respond-to-base/?link_id=18&can_id=aa5eb6d5850084f423a939ef528b230e&source=email-ndn-collective-a-summer-of-movement-building-gratitude&email_referrer=email_2435374&email_subject=ndn-collective-a-summer-of-movement-building-gratitude
Me too.

Bernie's right.

Killer Kamala has accepted over 5 million from AIPAC. I won't vote for any candidate on their payroll.
I find that to be a perfectly reasonable decision.
