I can’t even bother with the Green Party. Jill Stein was out in 2024 saying she her goal was to become president. Kshawa Sawant said the Green Party’s goal was to deny Kamala Harris the state of Michigan. Briahna Joy Gray said the Green Party’s goal is to get 5% of the vote for federal matching funds. What an absolute joke of an organization.

The Kshawa Sawant statement was so strange. What an absolute waste of time. I don't doubt there are well-intentioned Green Party members. But the party for itself is all over the place.

The thing is the American Green Party doesn't seem to do anything other than run these losing campaigns for high profile offices. Like they don't seem to do any party building. Also are their processes even democratic? Like how is Jill Stein virtually always the Presidential nominee? (other than that one time when it was Howie Hawkins) Who makes that decision?

I watched the Stein/Ware interview on zeteo with Mehdi Hasan last year and it was a trainwreck. Ware came off like a clown.

Oh I remember that. It's always telling when these third-party candidates can't answer basic questions about their political platform.

How he ended up as Jill Steins VP is completely bonkers. He really shot her in the foot. Not that she had a chance, but it made her look foolish.

My only concern with this article is saying Bernie Sanders was a long shot. I’m a 2x Bernie voter in primary elections. He was not a long shot candidate to the people, he was a long shot for the DNC as they are corporate centered and would rather allow trump to win than having Bernie Sanders in the white house. Democrats trust the DNC about as much as they trust Trump.

I do wonder if Ware could've kept his mouth shut in 2024 if the Green Party would have done better. Jill Stein got less than half the votes she did in 2016. It was a pretty bad performance.

To me 2024 was the final nail in the coffin of the third party or independent Presidential run. There's never been a cycle with two less popular major party nominees and the third party candidates did WORSE than ever

I think there was a direct correlation between her 2016-2024 and having Ware as her running mate.

Not the point at all of this article, but "The best example of a grifter is Alex Jones, who used right-wing conspiracy theories to sell InfoWars supplements to guys who think woke is why they can only see their kids with court supervision"is fantastic.

lol, thanks Chris!

Whenever someone barks "UNITY" at me, I always retort with "On whose terms?". "Unity" itself is an anti-democratic concept; in proper, healthy, small-d democratic systems, conflict and transactionalism are the rule. An effective American political left shouldn't shy away from those; far from it, in fact. They may be the only way out of the current, personality-driven political hole we are in.

Joe Wrote's avatar

Good point. Ware is using "unity" in the same way corporate Democrats are - Everyone must unite behind us.

Ah, the Green Party: an organ for transforming activists into spoilers and grifters (Nader, Stein, etc). The sooner it dies, the better.

Joe Wrote's avatar

I think the Green Party does a lot of good, and I don't doubt the sincerity of its members. But you're right, it has a history of producing grifters. Krysten Sinea is a prime example.

If I felt like being nuanced about the Green Party, I’d say something about how they only seem to fall into this trap when running for Prominent Executive Offices, so maybe they should just stop doing that, but we’re living in a timeline where But For Ralph Nader we’d have managed to dodge the rapid slide of the US into fascism, so I’m not inclined to be generous.

Joe Wrote's avatar

As is your right.

Eric Deamer's avatar

I'm not sure having Al Gore as President would have stopped our slide into fascism

No bush -> no 9/11 -> no forever wars, patriot act, DHS, TSA, etc

In case you forgot, Bush completely ignored warnings left by Clinton’s administration that Bin Laden was planning something big.

Eric Deamer's avatar

Yes I'm aware that this is the fantasy

OblivionNecroninja's avatar

I’m not seeing a counter-argument here. Perhaps you should think twice before trying to “win” a discussion by getting in a dismissive last word.

I will have to nitpick here: black women having higher risk of maternal mortality isn't a proof in favour of abortion. It is a sign of how incredibly underfunded healthcare and postnatal care for black women are. In this sense black women doing abortion is less about women excercising control over their reproductive rights as much as women coping with crippled social services by terminating reproduction.

Good Luck defending the party of genocide.

When did I do that?

Anatomy of a Certain Smear

1) Ware is suddenly within single digits of defeating the Democratic party in the California Governor's Primary. 2) The Democratic party through their organ, the New York Times, comes after Cesar Chavez, accusing him of being a rapist decades after the fact. 3) The Democratic Party Governor of California Newsom, who has interviewed Bannon and Kirk without criticism from the Democratic Party even though the Democratic Party recently has been in constant criticism of Hasan Piker, says people need to drop out of the race for Governor. 4) The administrative paper pushers who work for Newsom at the California Secretary of State decide to kick Ware off the ballot 5) The so-called liberal in white robes under his black robes upholds the decision to kick Ware off the ballot. 6) Governor Newsom praises Trump for his handling of Venezuela and Cuba and says he would do nothing different if he was the President. 7) I read this McCarthyite article.

I myself do not support Butch because he ever wanted unity in the "left". That showed me early that he didnt understand the difference in authoritarian socialist movements and the GP.

You cannot have unity if some want a concentration of power and others want decentralized horizontalism. Capitalism is nothing but a weapon in the hands of any state.
