We have never been more poorly served by the paradigm of a political continuum as now, when the "centrist, moderate" Democratic position is pro-genocide. There's no left-right spectrum; just a giant, fat binder of Pantone swatches.
If car ownership weren’t a requirement to participate in society, housing would be cheaper and more plentiful and I don’t hear anyone on either side discussing this. Transportation is a major contributor to housing cost which is why HUD included it in the updated housing affordability index thing a few years ago. Regulations, corporate ownership, developers, etc, etc, are not a complete picture of what is wrong with housing affordability. (I recognize this essay is not entirely about housing cost but I’m frustrated transportation cost and mode choice are left out of the conversation)
I don't doubt it. My overarching point is that liberal centrists should be able to address that without resorting to scapegoating. Not only because it's disingenuous, but because it won't solve the problem.
Yes the fake left and Democrats are being blamed by the think tanks that control Washington, and the West, for 'climate alarmism' that the right must counterbalance with thwarting renewable projects and frank climate denial. Of course the think tanks are funded by fossil fuels and animal ag.
Deregulation is right wing libertarianism 101. That's straight out of the Laissez-faire capitalist manual. They're just repackaging the billionaire agenda as something progressive. That means there is no longer any difference in the plan even. Just the claimed outcomes based on which faction you're talking to. Jeez...
A few social/labor uprisings or revolutions notwithstanding, it seems the superfluously rich and powerful have always had the police and military ready to foremost protect their big-money/-power interests, even over the basic needs of the masses, to the very end.
Even in modern (supposed) democracies, the police and military can, and perhaps would, claim — using euphemistic or political terminology, of course — they have/had to bust heads to maintain law and order as a priority during major demonstrations, especially those against economic injustices. Indirectly supported by a complacent, if not compliant, corporate news-media, which is virtually all mainstream news-media, the absurdly unjust inequities/inequalities can persist.
Perhaps there were/are lessons learned from those successful social/labor uprisings, with the clarity of hindsight, by more-contemporary big power/money interests in order to avoid any repeat of such great wealth/power losses (a figurative How to Hinder Progressive Revolutions 101, maybe)?
Perhaps ‘Calamity’ Jane Bodine, in the film Our Brand Is Crisis, is correct in stating: “If voting changed anything [in favor of the poor and disenfranchised] they’d have made it illegal.”

I gave this a like just for the title. Now to read it....

Lambert basically doubled down on the substance of everything that was quoted, he just denied they discussed the specific author/article.

"Regardless of the Truth" should henceforth be the name of this Substack.

I did and they said they love me. ❤️
