P.S. We old decrepit gray-haired anti-fascists who join such demos might actually inspire those misguided supporters of the fascist regime to come on over. Sometimes we wield more persuasive power than we think just by being who we are and standing tall for our principles even if we gotta hang on to our canes and walkers while doing so!
I went! Im in red sea kinda place and biggest one was a town over. everyone there was mostly much older people but for a small town there were about 2500 and they were creative and kind. I’m glad I went because you know who was excited about it? The Hispanic guys in their work trucks working on Saturday. They were really glad we were there. We also got harassed by a handful of angry guys so I’m glad I got to witness both of those things. I think showing up matters.
Great to hear that! Someone else said said going to protests like this at least shows communities attacked by Trump that they’re not alone. I think that’s incredibly important.
I'm literally in my local DSA chapter because of the first Hands Off rally. I saw a person with the An-Com flag and asked them if there were any socialist groups in the area, and they pointed me to the DSA, and I'm now the education chair. Though I will probably step down because I'm running for local office. I'd been a socialist for years, but never knew of any local groups. We've tabled at every No Kings for that very reason and have recruited quite a few people. There are a lot of progressives out there that support the Dems because that's all they've even known. But getting them into socialist groups helps them get educated and more class conscious because they realize that their progressive ideals are actually socialism. They already hate capitalism, because how can you not? Formalizing that into socialism is any easy step.
I get that electoralism and dealing with liberals is exhausting, but so many people that criticize it are doing nothing at all. If you're building mutual aid networks and organizing strikes, etc (like acutally, not just sharing memes and reading theory), then by all means keep it up and throw your stones. But you can do that stuff and try to bring in the liberals and get involved in politics. We need all the things, because last time I checked, the revolution ain't happening tomorrow. Find something and do it. Don't just sit around and whine. If you think other people are doing the wrong thing, convince them to do something else. That's how democratic systems work
And each chapter of Indivisible is different. Each chapter of the Dems is different. Our local Indivisible group is largely progressive and leftist (as in anti-capitalist), they just found Indivisible before DSA. But we are able to work well together and have the socialist message displayed openly at the No Kings rallies because of it. Lots of folks attend their meetings and ours. Our local Democrat Party is much more progressive than the national party, and we have a lot of DSA members running on the Dem ticket (because it's the easiest way to get ballot access with pre-established visibility. but no material support from the state party at all, they're useless there. it just gets you the people that would vote D automatically and some folks that will volunteer just because you're running as a Dem. but we've already moved some of the "elect Dems" people to "elect good people" instead). Broad brushing is fine sometimes, but you have to be able to put it down and see the nuance that's actually there most of the time
Very well argued. Thank you.
Thanks for reading!

Leftists: “Collectivism is the only way we can improve the lives of the working class.”
Also leftists: “Oh, I don’t want to build community with those people.”
Why would we join a protest designed to keep the fascist system humming?
Nope.
