American Democracy

As previously mentioned, The United States of America is broadly understood to be a democracy. Though both experts and constituents agree it is sub-optimal[i]. To the typical American who does not spend the majority of their existence concerned with political theory, the simple act of voting carries an implicit impression that they live in a democratic nation. Coupled with a national identity of having defeated Fascism and Communism, it is easy to see why Americans think this way. But while the U.S. has shared characteristics of democracy, it is not, and was never designed to be a full and equal democratic state.
