DNC Consultants Made Millions on the Harris Campaign. But They Still Can't Afford Mirrors.
"I was wrong," said no liberal ever.
Following another scalding defeat to Donald Trump, Democratic consultants, politicians, and pundits have engaged in rigorous self-criticism and community protection. While simultaneously identifying their mistakes, high-paid liberal operatives have dedicated the last two weeks to protecting vulnerable communities against the fascist threat their incompetence failed to stop. They’re currently organizing labor unions, calling emergency legislative sessions, and, in extreme cases, instructing their neighborhoods on self-defense procedures.
Just kidding. They’re doing none of that.
While that would be what an earnest political movement would do, the network of Democratic operatives that comprise the national party have scurried like rats from a sinking ship. Instead of finding ways to protect Americans from a second Trump term, they’ve logged onto America’s Customer Complaint Forum (Twitter) and sprinted to Fox News to explain why Kamala Harris’ defeat can’t be blamed on anyone in a position of institutional power. “It wasn’t my fault we lost,” they say. “The blame lies with trans kids, grieving Arab mothers, the woke mob, and Latino men, who were all too stupid to reward us for the strategic brilliance of getting an endorsement from the star of The Equalizer, airing Monday nights on CBS.”
The week before the election, I wrote that it was impossible for leftists to “punish” Democrats by withholding votes from them. That was not a guess but a conclusion drawn from analyzing how the Democratic National Committee and its ecosystem of consultants, pundits, and media allies operate. Not only does the liberal post-election finger-pointing show why the DNC Universe is unable to engage in introspection or change political course, but it also makes abundantly clear the path forward for American workers, marginalized communities, and their allies: we must build independent working-class political power.
Personal Interest > Public Interest
The 2024 Presidential Election shattered many longstanding political theories. The “demographics is destiny” belief that an increasing Latino nation would usher in Democratic dominance was proven false, as was the notion that “reasonable” centrist politics is the antidote to MAGA Republicanism. While it wasn’t as apparent as the other falsehoods exposed by Trump’s second victory, this cycle also broke the most common misunderstanding about political parties. Contrary to popular belief, Democrats and Republicans do not prioritize winning above all else.
If you’ve consumed any political media since the election, you’ve probably heard a Democrat talking head explain why their party lost. Though I don’t know who you saw, I’m confident in estimating that the explanation blamed everyone except for the person talking.
, the most prominent liberal blogger whose work is read and implemented by top Democratic officials, wrote a nine-point program saying Democrats should become more like Republicans. It was quickly praised by the liberal blog-o-sphere, including Jonathan Chait and Fareed Zakaria.Massachusetts Congressman Seth Moulton blamed the loss on “trans women competing in sports.” Nancy Pelosi has spent more time criticizing Bernie Sanders’ working-class critique of why the Democrats lost than she has criticized the party itself. Lindy Li, a DNC Finance Committee member who bears direct responsibility for a disastrous campaign that ended $20 million in debt,1 went on Fox & Friends to claim she was the victim. Li was also named one of WIRED’s top influencers shaping the election, a terrible look considering the outcome.
“Someone messed up the finances!” said the DNC Financial Committee member.
