Hey Joe! I like a lot of what you write but I’m wondering how you’d respond to the following arguments:
Under your income visual of Europe you stated, “The stronger the labor sentiment in a country, the higher the average salary.” But your source doesn’t include labor sentiment or how it is correlated to salary, so I’m wondering how you’re defining labor sentiment? Taking a cursory look at OECD unionization rates, it’s certainly true that the Nordic countries post the highest union rates in the 50-90% range. But other countries with similarly high incomes have much lower rates like Ireland (~22%), Switzerland (~13%), and the Netherlands (~13%).
You also referenced the size of the Nordic countries as being a factor working against their social programs. But while increasing population size may spread risk, wouldn’t it also increase moral hazard?
