I have had to use these services you speak of here. It is not easy and many people try to shame those who are on TANF and SNAP. I have been dealing with ageism and other "isms" for a long time, on top of it. I don't believe that unemployment has gone down, but I do believe that more people are homeless. I face this fear every day. This means testing should just be called "mean testing." Some of us know firsthand that this society and government are cruel. Thank you for addressing this.
First, I am sorry to hear about your situation. I hope you find help soon, and of course if I can ever help, please reach out.
I too applied for SNAP recently. Not only was the form EXHAUSTIVE and needlessly long, but it was clear designed to deter people from joining, which is gross. They asked me how much my car (which I'm still paying off) is worth.
Thank you so much for the offer, Joe. I really appreciate it.
I am sorry that you have had to go through filling out that form. It is designed to deter people, for sure. It's so ludicrous. What are supposed to do? Sell your car? Wtf!
Then there are these government funded organizations that are supposed to help with housing (don't even get me started), they sent me applications to places so that I can get on their waiting list. The applications were 26 pages long!
That was my thought! It's how I get groceries and get to work. My situation worsens if I sell it, and I'll probably just require even MORE help from the government.
Thanks Joan! I'm going to do some deep-dives into specific means testing programs, but I just didn't feel I had the space here. Some good stuff coming!

Exactly! It's exhausting.
Joe for Congress! 2024
lol thanks, but that seems stressful. I'd rather blog about it.
Good one!
