True Centrism Has Always Been Tried - With Luke Savage

The centrists have a UK problem.

Congratulations to Luke Savage on his promotion to JoeWrote Senior International Correspondent! And a big thanks to Luke for joining me to talk about Keir Starmer and the failure of international centrism.

Over the past 16 months, Americans have listened to the establishment of the Democratic Party argue the party must “moderate” to win elections and combat the far right. I’ve always doubted that based on recent American politics, and learning more about how centrism has failed in the United Kingdom provides stronger evidence to this case.

Luke walks us through how Starmer’s centrist Labor government has plummetteed in popularity, his crusade against the left, and how the failed government is enabling the rise of the British far-right, the Reform Party. We also talk about Canadanian Prime Minister Mark Carney’s declaration that the “Rules-Based International Order” is over, and what it means for the trans-Atlantic order.
